What role does the nervous system play in children’s behavior and development?

Further training with Michael Diemer

FURTHER EDUCATION

Further training for educators, teachers, psychologists and other professionals in the field of childcare takes place on the premises of the CHAJA Foundation.

Biting, scratching and social bonding disorders are just some of the abnormalities that have to be dealt with in day-to-day care. However, assessments of developmental delays, behavioral modalities or behavioral disorders underestimate the importance of attachment and security for the autonomic nervous system in the development of behavior.

The findings of polyvagal theory in particular show the fundamental importance of the processing of social experiences in the nervous system. As a protective system, the autonomic nervous system reacts to information about safety or danger. This classification takes place before conscious perception and enables nervous system regulation. In order for children to learn the appropriate regulatory skills, they need support from caregivers – us.

As professionals, we bring our bonding and regulatory skills to the relationship with the children. Reflecting on our own attitude in the professional field is crucial for this.

After a brief introduction to trauma pedagogy, this course explains the polyvagal theory. The hierarchy of the nervous system, neuroreception, regulation and co-regulation, vagus brakes and the social interaction system are illustrated through case discussions and exercises.

Speaker is Michael Diemer, staatl. qualified Physiotherapist, trauma consultant/educator (DeGPD), member of the board of the Polyvagal Society Germany and Polyvagal informed Therapist.
